Lantern Festival

Fiirst Full Moon of the Year

People go out at night solving riddles on lanterns.

Signifying the conclusion of the Lunar New Year period and the arrival of spring, the Lantern Festival is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. The lanterns represent people saying goodbye to the previous year and wishing luck and prosperity for the upcoming one. People come home and eat a kind of glutinous rice ball called tangyuan. Eating tangyuan is believed by Chinese people to bring luck, happiness, and harmony to the family in the forthcoming year. Sometimes it is known as Chinese Valentine’s Day as youngsters would go out on the street in hopes of falling in love.
